Things like batteries, generators, bottled water and plywood which folks in Texas are now having the nerve to complain about stores running out of them?
Wouldn’t it be a better idea to maintain a stash of these kinds of things in your attic so you wouldn’t have to fight lines of 1a thousand people at Home Depot whenever there’s a hurricane bearing down on you?
Fuzzy, batteries have a shelf life of at least five years. Bottled water could last at least a year if not more. When these items expire after a couple of years, you simply buy new ones. What’s so hard about that?
Gee, I didn’t know generators had shelf lives. Duhhhhh. I’ll have to check the expiration date the next time I go to buy one. Don’t want a stale generator.
Good grief.
I realize that people have a hard time buying their daily necessities but if they can’t afford to maintain and replenish a simple and inexpensive emergency kit like this, then maybe they ought to consider food stamps.

On Monday the track for hurricane Ike was close to the Texas-Mexico border. That was then, but this is what we have now. A high pressure area to the north is moving away and opening up a window of dis-opportunity for those in the upper Texas coast. What was a lower Texas event is now a mid-Texas coast event and we could still get further movement to the East before Saturday landfall.
Ike has devastated Cuba leaving behind dozens of people dead and billions in damages.
There are no factors in place over the gulf that will inhibit the redevelopment of Ike to a major hurricane. Warm water and lack of shear will allow the storm to regenerate to at least Category 3 strength before it makes landfall. This is one of several unusual aspects of Ike. We could even be looking at a category 4. :-(
According to Expert Meteorologist John Kocet, it is rare for a major hurricane to weaken considerably while moving across land and then redevelop over water to an even stronger storm than before landfall. Kocet adds that Ike has taken an unusual track since forming in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Very unusual to say the least. “The southwesterly movement of Ike across the Caribbean and Cuba is rare in mid-September,” said Kocet. “From this point on as far as a comparison to Ike’s current position, there have been dozens of storms at this time of year that have moved from western Cuba through the Gulf.”
Houston’s Eric Berger wrote, “At this time most of the dynamic models are in pretty good agreement about a landfall somewhere between Corpus Christi and Palacios, however the potential error here is still as high as 150 to 200 miles. The models can and probably will continue to change.”
Berger went on to write, “Three years ago I worked with public officials to characterize the realistic, worst-case scenario for Houston. Here’s a snippet from the story: ‘Houston’s perfect storm would feed on late summer’s warm waters as it barreled northward across the Gulf of Mexico, slamming into the coast near Freeport. A landfall here would allow its powerful upper-right quadrant, where the waves move in the same direction as the storm, to overflow Galveston Bay. Within an hour or two, a storm surge, topping out at 20 feet or more, would flood the homes of 600,000 people in Harris County.”
The bottom line is that we’re not only going to get a TON of rain since we’re on the wet-n-wild side, but we could be in the worst of all situations if Ike slides 25-50 miles further East. Don’t even think that or go there! :-(

All of the politicians that know nothing or little about global warming have already jumped on the Super Tuesday tornadoes that took more than 50 lives. John Kerry was one of the first to jump in. He said in part, ““I don’t want to sort of leap into the larger meaning of, you know, inappropriately, but on the other hand, the weather service has told us we are going to have more and more intense storms. And insurance companies are beginning to look at this issue and understand this is related to the intensity of storms that is related to the warming of the earth. And so it goes to global warming and larger issues that we’re not paying attention to”.
Let’s depart from the local U.S. tornadoes, and talk about the big picture wherein we’ll begin with hurricanes.
Anyone who has been around the block a couple of times begins to see this picture. All of the Atlantic hurricanes, that have so pounded and devastated the United States, begin as an atmospheric disturbance just above equatorial Africa. That forms into a what’s called a tropical wave that heads West, begins spinning, forms a depression, grows into a tropical storm, and ultimately into a hurricane of some power and significance.
But, what CAUSES this cycle? What’s the cause of the atmospheric disturbance? Maybe galactic global warming?
Could the Sahel be the cause? What in the hell is the SAHEL?
The Sahel is a 2,400 miles stretch of land running from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Red Sea in the east. It’s width varies from several hundred to a thousand kilometers, covering an area of roughly 1,200,000 square miles. It is a transitional ecoregion of semi-arid grasslands, savannas, and thorn shrublands lying between the wooded Sudanian savanna to the south and the Sahara desert to the north.
The Sahel cuts across such countries as: Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Sudan, and Eritrea.
So, stick with me now. What scientists are discovering, or coming to believe is that the hurricanes that have hit America (can you ay Katrina) started as an atmospheric disturbance, as I mentioned above, but that disturbance was cause by thunderstorms in the sahel! In fact, all hurricanes that hit the US from the Atlantic do so 7-10 days after a major thunderstorm rakes the Sahel.
Maybe we need weather stations in Senegal and Mauritania more than in Miami. :-)
But what causes “these Sahel thunderstorms” to cause atmospheric disturbances, to cause tropical storms, that eventually become hurricanes? More specifically, why was 2004 and 2005 two of the most INTENSE hurricane seasons for the US? Politicians would say “global warming”. I say hog-wash and I ask could it be because of coronal mass ejections (sun spots)?
Is it coincidental that after the greatest historic sunspot activity that the Eastern part of Shael cracked apart (Can you say Toba supervolcano?) at the same time that we saw a peak in Sahel thunderstorms, which caused the historic hurricanes of 2004-05? Coincidence?
Politicians can blame global warming, but tomorrow, I’ll let you in on a little NASA secret that tells me we know a lot more about what may come in 2012 (ecologically speaking) than we want to have the American people, and the world know.

When a Katrina Torments
So what if an unexpected Katrina knocks you down with the velocity of its wind; shan’t it be better if the doors were strong and well preserved with the best of strength to ward of the devil within the storm? If an answer to that from your side remains affirmative, then the need of the hour shall be knock hard and feel the strength of a Hurricane door. The way to deal the powerful storm lies more in the way you stay safe from its malign force. Not that there lies in wait a sprite that might spell out doom to a delightful family but it often is the nature of nature to play the spoil sport when the soul is still young. So for a hurricane prone area, the safest option often stays in the windows and doors following the best design for impact resistant glass walls.
And that’s not something people aren’t familiar with as in most of the regions where you are damn sure to expect hurricane, people don’t just wait to feel the effect, they naturally run to the safety of a hurricane door and windows glass wall system. These doors are well within the standards to resist the impact of the storm as well as the destruction caused buy the debris. Amongst the glass walls system there exist one name NanawallSystems that creates hulk hurricane doors and glass that has stand tall on various hurricanes arrivals to protect lives of the owner.
Shielding the Weather
That makes it more like a weather shield glass and with a sliding patio door, adds more to security of your home than mere safety from storms. If that appears like a double delight, a scoop of extra flavor to the wonderful taste, then it damn sure should fit into your house plan. A hurricane door with its glass windows and doors add not only elegance to your house plan but also the fun of watching the merriness around you when the days and the seasons run past with their ardent splendor. Admittedly, a glass porch with the best of Hurricane doors shall latter be the best of the spots within the house that you might find yourself most cozy and relaxed.
That isn’t just a mere expression but more of a fact when you get closer to a good house plan with the best works of glass. No more shall the Katrina torment you with the sprinkle from the sky and no more shall be a wind strong enough to pierce the latent happiness within your home.
