Why are people in Dallas freaking out about Hurricane Ike?

Am I just completely oblivious to some terrible oncoming danger or am I correct in expecting thunderstorms, flash floods, and strong winds with a slight chance for tornadoes. I’m sorry but that’s not nearly bad enough to make me leave me home. And that’s not being stubborn or stupid, that’s being realistic.
